My bass improved a lot in the quality of its sound with this set of strings, the brightness, the life, and the sound of these strings are incredible, simply awesome.

Flatwound & Half-round players won't like these
These are basically tamed Rotosound 66s

These are my favorite strings for any bass
I got these on a whim once to try something new and I just fell in love. With the treble cranked and a heavy touch, they can sound like rounds, but dial back the tone and use a lighter touch and you can almost get that flatwound thud. They have a perfect blend of sound and are really the most versatile strings I've tried, having used them in everything from metal to jazz to indie. If you really like that zing of a fresh set of rounds out the utterly dead boom of flats, you may want to steer clear. But for anyone in between, I'd highly recommend checking these out.

Great Strings!
Great strings! I recently tried these for the first time and did a show in a loud stage environment using a concert sound system and these really came through with great sound with just a bit of the treble naturally rolled off. Never played a string quite like these. Now it's all I will use. A little morre expensive than some, but well worth it.I've been using Elixers on another bass and I'm done with those. I have ordered 3 sets in the last month for different basses and I am so happy I did on each and every one of them.

Great tone, but not low string noise
I bought these strings looking for less string noise, but these strings are rougher and make more noise than the Fender nickel-plated roundwounds I was using. I'll have to try the 66s to see what the difference is. However, these 55s make my Geddy Lee jazz bass sound like Geddy Lee's tone, which was the point behind having this bass. The Fender strings were nice, but had a warmer and more mellow tone, which was great for some things but not why I bought this bass.

Smoother then RoundWound and almost as bright.
I generally play with the Rotosound 66 (stainless steel round wound) and had a brief fiasco with fender stainless steel round wounds, and found these at a good price (and the gage I like). They are smoother then both the Rotosound 66's and equivalent fenders, but not as smooth as flat wounds. The tone is slightly less bright and more mellow then their round wound counterparts, which I like. You can get a lot of diverse by playing with EQ and tone adjustments on your equipment. They are easier on the fingers and frets then the stainless steal round wounds and have a similar tone, which I why I wanted to try them in the first place. I am not disappointed!

Nice tone!
Went to see a electric guitar and bass duo. The bassists sound was great, and while I know there are many things that make good tone when I asked her about it she told me she was using pressure wounds. I bought this set and I am very pleased by the tone and playability thus far!

Pressure wound??? I wish they would standardise guitar string definition!!
It seems that there are many different terms for what I know as ‘semi-flat’ wound strings. D’Addario call them ‘half rounds’! I have heard them called ‘tape-wound’ - quite a good description; ‘ground wound’; & the genre used by the top string specialist and therefore, the term that I prefer, ‘semi-flat’! So when you type in ‘semi-flat’ bass strings and you get Rotosound’s ‘Pressure Wound’ as your only option, what is one supposed to do?Under the magnifying glass: (with the red tortoise-shell p’guard in the background) is the ‘Pressure wound’. Although it’s very tight & microscopic, it is very definitely ‘round wound’. Brand new, they are very bright and particularly abrasive to the skin and to the fingerboard of my fretless bass. Whereas the picture containing my finger & thumb, shows the ‘semi-flat’ in all of its’ glory… and grubby state - gimme a break, they’ve only been in place for seven years! As for the quality, To my ear & opinion, they are excessively bright; too bright for a maple fretless board certainly. Higher pitched than the tops of say, the usual stainless steel eclectic quality of Elixirs. They will no doubt, dullen with age & you could obviously dial-out the amp or bass, but not at the expense of my fretless’ fingerboard. They are probably very good strings but they are certainly not semi-flat & are not for the fretless application.

Rough finish compared to other leading brand pressure wound strings
I was expecting good things with these strings. I have pressure wound strings from a different manufacturer on another of my basses which have a nice smooth feel and great sound.Sadly these rotosound strings didn't live up to my expectations. They are about as rough as any roundwound strings so there is plenty of finger noise which is what I hoped to be rid of.Also they seem to be low tension which resulted in a lot of truss rod adjustment.I've taken them off now and replaced them with standard gauge round wounds (Not rotosound) which have nicer tone and much less scratchy finger noise.

Not much difference to roundwounds
I bought these to string a fretless bass, thinking they might be a bit kinder to the neck but they're essentially roundwounds. Being stainless steel I used a little baby powder to get rid of the sticky feel. Probably won't buy them again

Harmonics and fundamentals
Strung these on my acoustic 5 string. Obviously sounded great straight on, but noticed the reduced finger noise described by others isn't necessarily the case. The strings are class and after a hearing back live group audio I'm happy with the results.Only reason I'm not 5ing these is I can't visibly see or feel the difference between these and roundwounds as widely described. On the plus they are sonically excellent, providing lots of harmonics and great lows even on the low b

Great for fretless
Nice and relatively bright strings, some of the brightness of rounds with some of the mellowness of flats. My fretless still “mwahs” plenty with these on, however these strings wear a fretless board much less than roundwound (even on a hard fretboard).
