I don`t know why when you buy a chair, they put in cheap pumps that don`t work for very long usually the weight is about 200 pounds, and our chair lasted about 6 months, So I installed a new pump which is rated for 1000 pounds, I installed it with no problem and it works great, so far no sign of the pump failing great buy.

It took me 2.5 hours of work due to my chair has a lower cylinder chamber welded together with the legs.I had to remove that part out of new cylinder to use the existing one I had there.Replacing the whole base was not an option, as the chair is very heavy and need longer legs to stand on.If this is your case, please read on.This is the first time I've replaced the cylinder.I'd recommend to ask someone to assist the diy-er with these replacement in such cases.I had to pull it apart and put it together twice, since the lower part has a shaft with the bearing enclosed by just a couple of washers, this assembly only had to be installed (inserted) on the shaft standing vertically to keep that assembly in place, if not - the washer falls off and just sits in the cylinder unattached, the shaft will go through into the floor after everything seemed assembled.I'd also recommend, for executive-style chairs, to have a good-weighted mallet ready, not a hummer.Also, the vise or some other fixture to hold it in place while disassembling/assembling.I had both available and put them to good use.It would've been way easier if I had a helping hand.Once "everything" was in place, the cylinder works great, little stiff for my weight (about 210 - 220), but works fine, soft enough for me and I don't mind. If you are in about same weight range and would like the softer touch, there are other choices that are also a very good quality products, just like this one.I expect it to last (1000lb is a way over it's actual use in my case)It can be done, good luck with yours.

Great product and easy to install. I ordered it due to the sales volume of over 1K sold in past month - so no extensive research. I bought this for a Costco Office chair purchased in 2019. It's about 5/8" longer base than the original and it raises about 1.5" higher than the original. It took about 10 min to put this in.I used a small pipe wrench to release from the base. I then placed the base over a bucket and used a short piece of 2x2 and larger hammer and knocked it out of the base. It all slipped back together as planned.

Why did you pick this product vs others?:My old cylinder had the dreaded slowly sinking issue when I sat on it. I would guess it was 10 years old and the cushions were still in great shape. I paid over $400.00 for the chair so I thought I would rebuild it and use it for my workbench in the basement.Ease of assembly:I saw a lot of YouTube videos that showed that it was tough to get the cylinder off the chair bracket. I used a heat gun at 300 degrees and a pipe wrench to loosen the old one, it made it easy. On the chair base there is a c-clip which I removed that held in the old cylinder and I was able to use a mallet to knock out the old housing. Fit:Perfect fit and I am very happy. I also replaced the wheels with single roller wheels which I also got from Amazon - See my other review. I have an oversized office chair from a reputable brand, and one day the gas cylinder went kaput (it was rated for 450 lbs due to it being the Big & Tall model). Under their warranty they shipped me a new cylinder, which arrived from Canada damaged and had lost most of its pressure/resistance so you could push it all the way down just pressing with your hand. Since I had already waited almost two weeks to get my chair working again, I opted to just buy a "heavy duty" cylinder on Amazon.It was delivered to the office within 2-days and is also superior in quality and construction to my previous *two* cylinders. I love that the 5.5" option gives me a little more height (I am 6' 5" and have long legs), and it isn't even a little spongy when I sit down. Although it was a hassle to me that my best option was NOT sticking with the warranty, rather paying for the part out-of-pocket...it was cheaper than most options and performs better than the original did when it was new. For this reason, it's a 5-star product to me between the value and utility I get from it.

So far so good! I just got this installed on my office chair. I knew it was going to be a bit taller than my original, but that is okay, I am 6'7" and a chair being a little taller is quite alright with me.However, it ended up being about 5 inches taller once fully extended! When I lean back in my chair MY FEET ACTUALLY DANGLE IN THE AIR!!!! I have not had this happen in quite a long time!1000% would DEFINITELY buy again!

Fit perfectly and was easy to install (getting the old cylinder out was more of a chore). My old cylinder must not had as much "range" as this one. It gets my chair up to comic heights!

The reason why I'm giving this a four-star review is because it works for about 4 to 6 months and then after that you almost certainly have to buy another one. And that's kind of the worst thing about it. However, it works very well during that time.
