Llama Llama Holiday Drama

Just as stellar as its predecessors
Having loved the first two Llama Llama books for quite some time now, I looked forward to receiving my copy of this newest volume. I was not disappointed, and in some respects I think this book surpasses certain aspects of the former stories. The author has perfected her amazing illustration style, and it shows in the rich and detail-filled illustrations of this book. The story is very enjoyable, and very universal. I am grateful to Ms. Dewdney for keeping the focus of the season on a general holiday theme - which allows us, as a Pagan family, to enjoy the delights of the book as well as others.I love the holiday themes presented - the sights, sounds, and images are just what little children remember of holiday time. It wonderfully addresses the need for family togetherness balanced with the joys of giving, and of course (as always) presents a very common young-child perspective. My son loves all of these books because he can relate to the very real feelings presented in them. Since he has reached the magical age (4) where holidays are a great source of fun and excitement, my son particularly likes this book because it addresses his feelings of impatience and his tendency to get overwhelmed with the preparations. We're feeling that right now with the approach of Halloween!A difference I noticed, which I believe is actually positive -I was slightly off-put by the overly angry expression of Mama Llama in a page of the first volume (Red Pajama), and this impression has continued to bother me. As practitioners of gentle discipline, I don't believe in anger and yelling to solve problems with children. I felt (and still feel) the look was a bit harsh, despite her reassuring words later in the story. I don't know if my son has noticed this connection, but I try to tone down my reciting of that particular passage to soften the effect of the illustration somewhat. I was relieved to find Mama Llama's countenance somewhat moderated in the second book (Mad at Mama), and found that she seemed to react to the situation with a bit more patience and understanding, which I feel all parents should try to do with their children - regardless of how dramatic the situation. The issue is completely resolved in Holiday Drama, as Mama provides smiles and gentle reassurance to her frustrated boy.I am delighted to add this book to our collection, and look forward to many more wonderful stories from this gifted artist.

Adorable and Useful Addition to the Llama Llama series
Anna Dewdney's Llama books each tackle a common preschool trouble spot with funny and cute rhymes. My kids and I love them. More please! I find a lot of rhyming children's books to be awkward and sappy reads, but Dewdney's rhymes are charming and clever and this new addition to the series is no exception. Waiting for the Big Day is very hard for little ones as the holiday excitement shifts into high gear, I am glad to have such a cute book to relate to my kids on this subject. They love it and the story of Llama overloading and then being calmed by a hug from his mama will give me something to talk about and refer the kids to during the holiday season, in trying to calm frazzed nerves and stave off any Llama-esque meltdowns that are just getting started. Also the book offers a very good preview of all the fun-but-sometimes-stressful things that are likely to happen in a preschool kid's life over the coming weeks, which is another great preventative measure to keep the anxiety at a minimum... the kids are reminded by this book that shopping, baking, crafting, decorating, etc.etc. and especially WAITING will be happening, and they will be expecting it to some extent. This is especially important for us because my twins are on the autism spectrum, but I think it is a great book to share with any preschool age kid at this time of year.

Great rhymes, read below if curious about religious references
Excellent rhymes, as is typical with Llama Llama. He's a brat and Mama Llama straightens him out as he gets impatient for the holidays. For those that are curious amd particular about the religious references, here is what I noticed:1. Window display has menorah, snowman, and santa claus.2. Mentions "dress-up clothes in green and red" which is typical of Christmas colors.3. Mentions "the special day" and "all this waiting for one day".4. "School has dreidels"5. Mama Llama decorate a tree and stockingsSo it doesn't directly mention any specific holiday, but obviously is geared toward Christmas and Hanukkah. I liked the diversity of both religions.

Dewdney is a master at books young kids love to have read to them
Llama Llama holiday delight. The book is wonderful. I bought 3, one for each of our grandchild families. But Grandma wants to know where her copy is...oops...nana nana holiday trauma. The book does NOT fail to bring smiles and squeals of delight from young children being read this drama of Llama Llama waiting through the last days prior to Christmas. Each rhyming page brings more pre-Christmas activity, all in preparation for the big event. But poor llama llama just can't wait. Every child will relate to all the steps that even llamas must go through to arrive at Christmas Day. Truth is...so can Papa's and Nana's, we all hate waiting, but so enjoy all the preliminaries, including now a frequent reading of "Llama Llama Holiday Drama" by Anna Dewdney. In the end, Llama Llama learns a lesson suited for all, from toddlers to elderly seniors. The illustration art inside is the same great Llama quality as all of the Llama Llama books. The dustcover for this Christmas book has a wonderful snowy background that shimmers, just like real snow on a cold winter's day.As grandparents, we will not be able to wait, like Llama Llama had to do. We'll give our book gifts early so the grand-kids can enjoy it many times prior to Christmas.

Love this fun Christmas llama book
The media could not be loaded. We love this Christmas llama book. It is one of the longer Llama Llama books in the series. The front cover is sparkly and very inviting. My daughter loves this catchy story and we still have it out in our book rotation even in March, because it is so loved! Highly recommend!
