Excellent game

Excellent game, easy to get started at any age, but layers of strategy make it a good game for all ages. Sturdy pieces and attractive board.

Not the easiest came to learn…

This game is aimed at ages 6 to 99yrs, but to be honest at 46yrs old I found it a little over complicated to learn. The quality of the game itself is good… it’s well made and sturdy. I like the fact that’s the pieces are wooden as opposed to plastic. For me there was too many instructions to follow. I found myself having to go back and forth through the instructions to get how the game is to be played. I got the fact that you have cards to be played in order to skip a turn, turn a stone, etc. but there’s was too many things in the instructions of what you can and cannot do in order to make it an easy game to learn, and for it to be fun! If the instructions were better laid out so you didn’t have to go back and forth constantly it probably is a good game to play.It says it’s a 20 minute game play but it took me that to try and read the instructions and get my head around them! I do feel the price point is a little to high for this game at £21.99 so sadly only gave it 3 stars.

Stratego for Juniors

Playing boardgames with the children can often be just a matter of luck. Whoever happened to throw the right dice gets the win. The difference with 'Sinking Stones' is that it requires some thought to win. Players must stay on the remaining stones, the last one to fall wins. The strategy comes in both where you move, but also the cards you play. There is luck here, both good and bad, but the right players will be able to think enough for a better chance of winning. It is 6+ and the strategy cards are simple, but it is a tricky game for the very young, if they are playing older siblings. It works best with equal level players. The pieces are all well-made and it is simple looking, but an attractive game. For the right balanced family or group of friends, it makes for a good game.

An easy and simple game to play

A board game for 2 to 5 players, that can last about 15mins.You get a gaming board, 20 wooden stepping stones, 50 game cards and 5 gaming figures. The object of the game is to hop off stones before they sink, by using power cards to leap, swap spots, or grab a float. The game is fast moving and the rules can be learnt in 5 minutes. A single wrong move can change your fate in the game. The last person standing wins.First lay out 16 stones, with at least one side touching another stone. Then deal out 2 cards each, then stack the rest face down into a draw pile. Then each player must put their game piece on any stone of their choice. When the game starts, you must pick up a card from the draw pile, then using up to two of your cards, move your piece to another stone, the stone sinks after you step off of it. If you cannot move, your stone sinks with you on it and you’re out of the game, either way turn the stone over so the blue side is up, showing that the stone has sunk. The winner is the last person standing on a stone. My young grandchildren picked it up in no time, and there was a different outcome with every game. There is a bit of strategy, a bit of deviousness and a lot of luck involved.A great simple family game, that can be used on any occasion, or a great gift idea.

A bit expensive for what it is

For the money I would expect something to make me think and a bit of a more complicated game. This is quite simple and more of a card game. It has some tricks to keep it interesting but after a couple of rounds you kinda get bored and want to ply something else. So for the money I expected more.Otherwise it is good quality and nice but I wouldn’t buy again.

Easy to play, great for adults and kids

We had a lot of fun playing this game. My 6 year old picked it up really quickly after 1 or 2 practice rounds then we were straight into it.It's a simple game. You line the stepping stones up then place your game piece on any of the stones. You need to move each go and when you do the stone you were on "sinks" and is removed from the board. You also collect a card every time you move which allow you to add more stones, take them away, leap across the board and a number of other actions. The cards make the game much more exciting as you never know what card your opponent is going to play so the tables can turn very quickly.Games typically last about 10 - 15 minutes so it's great for a quick game before bed or marathon "just one more game" sessions. The pieces are all made really well with the stones and counters being made from real wood and the cards of a good quality. It seems expensive for what it is but it really is good fun. I've played far more "premium" games which never had the playability of this game.
