As a participant in the Amazon Vine program, I received the newest Kindle (16 GB) to test and provide an honest review. Having used earlier Kindle models, I was genuinely impressed by the upgrades in this version. It’s clear Amazon focused on refining what already worked and making it even better.🔹 Size & Portability:This is the lightest and most compact Kindle yet, and you really feel the difference in hand. It’s incredibly easy to hold for long reading sessions, especially with one hand. I have the earliest kindle fire, and it still works, but it’s losing its ability to hold a charge. I typically only use it when traveling, but I broke my arm two weeks ago, and find that while the kindle fire is much easier to manage than the stack of hardcover books on my desk, I still use a triangular pillow to hold books or my kindle fire, because both are too heavy for one-handed long reads. (I have a bit of arthritis in my wrists, too).So, I landed on the basic kindle because I was most concerned with lightening up—all of them stay charged forever nowadays, and any of them are light years ahead of the kindle fire version I own.I didn’t buy the cover, either, because weight.I was shocked to find this little effer is lighter than my iPhone 16 pro! It’s really easy to read in daylight or at night, and I can hold it in one hand without fatigue. Daytime glare is virtually nonexistent. I bought a silicone strap for the back of it, but a simple pop-socket would work.I love this kindle. Its compact size fits in my smallest, flattest crossbody, and it adds no weight to my load. I feel like I can read anywhere again—it will shave pounds off my carry-on. I am hopeful that it’s the thing I needed to get back to reading more.

I bought my new Kindle two days ago after deciding I needed to consolidate my book collection into a device that would be more comfortable to read after my husband goes to sleep (I love the dark mode!!). It was delivered same day which was super convenient. I immediately took advantage of the Unlimited free trial and blew through a 400 page book in 2 days-- partially attribution to the ease of using this the Kindle. The Kindle is super light and really small, so I was really surprised when the font was super easy to read. It was so comfortable to hold in bed while I laid on my side too, as I do most of my reading before bed. The color is super cute as well-- the only drawback is that I couldn't afford a higher end version that I Imagine would be in color and a bit most seamless in scrolling. Sometimes it takes a minute to load the settings and other pages, but when I'm actually reading a book, it swipes through pages super quickly.

My previous kindle was from 2013, so after over 10 years, the battery is not lasting as long as it used to. I love it though, and decided I wanted the basic kindle model again. This new 2024 model is exactly that, with some great upgrades. The light is fantastic, as my previous one didn’t have it. It’s slightly smaller, and even with the case weighs about the same as my very old model. I love the keyboard function and the touchscreen is just as responsive as I would expect. The screen seems clearer and sharper than my old one, but still has that paper feel when I’m reading. I have a kindle fire as well, but I always came back to my basic kindle, and this one is a fantastic upgrade. I highly recommend it if you want just an e-reader.
