Wow! What a difference!
I bought this reciprocating saw to replace an old corded saw from Harbor Freight. Now lest anyone think I'm criticizing HF, I'm absolutely not. That old saw was cheap and it did a lot of cutting for for several years. It was a great choice when I had to conserve cash.BUT, this DeWalt saw is sooo much better. I love the cordless feature, and since I have a few DeWalt tools and batteries, it is very convenient.I used this while doing a vinyl plank floor installation in my son's home. We had to cut back the molding around a number of doors. In that application, where we moved several feet from one door to the next, not needing to move an extension cord or have it cluttering our work area between cuts was a big asset. Secondly, this saw makes changing blades far easier than the cap screw system on the old saw. You just press a quick release lever and the blade is lose, but it never once came loose when I didn't want it to. I cannot say either of those for the HF saw. Finally, this saw has a lot more power than my HF corded saw. It cuts much faster. All in all, the HF saw was a great deal on a tight budget, but this is a great saw. I'm happy to recommend it.

Excellent tool for making straight-in cuts and sanding in tight spaces
This "DEWALT 20V MAX XR Oscillating Multi-Tool, Variable Speed, Tool Only (DCS356B)" is an excellent tool that you'll find more and more uses for as you go. I use it mainly for making any kind of straight-in cut on a flush surface that would be much trickier for most other kinds of saws (e.g. making a cutout in drywall for an outlet box, or separating apart a wooden stringer glued to plywood without damaging the stringer or the plywood), and also, for sanding in tight corners (with a little triangular sanding adapter I purchased that fits the excellent quick attach mount on this tool). The more I use it, the more I find myself reaching for it on the next project. It's simple and it works great. The battery seems to last plenty long for most the tasks I can imagine using this for (it's not a "high volume" sanding or cutting tool, but for the specialized tasks it does so well, it's perfect). One quibble: It is LOUD, with a very pronounced whine. This is inevitable with the high speed vibration/oscillation it depends on to function, but you will not want to use this at early/late hours when your neighbors are sleeping. Think of a gas-powered weed whip. Not as deep "throaty" of a sound as those revving engines may have, but a similar whine in pitch and volume. If you're going to use it for more than a moment, it's probably smart to don hearing protection, though I don't actually find the volume level painful. It's on par with a high speed random orbital sander, but a little sharper and more pronounced in its whine. Okay, enough said. Now you know.As oscillating multi tools go, this one seems well-built, effective, and ideal for someone who is already invested in the DeWalt 20V Max line of tools like I am. Highly recommended!

great buy….great tool
Just added this to my growing line of Dewalt tools. Replacing my Milwaukee multi tool with this, Dit this to match my batteries since I have a significant investment in Dewalt tools and having one tool with a different and lower capacity battery system was a an irritant when working. Found that the Dewalt tool is more powerful and a bonus is its much quieter, more powerful and the vibration seems less of an issue

The Oscillating Tool is Most useful
The oscillating tool is one of the best inventions in my lifetime. It is versertle and adaptable. Dewalt makes great tools and this one is exception.

Handy Tool
Gets in places bigger saws cannot. It's quick, it's easy, changing blades takes seconds ... although force required to hold down the guard can be a bit much when hands are tired from work. Small and even takes a drop.Family member dropped this off a truss over 8' in the air onto concrete foundation floor with a Dewalt 6 Ah battery attached. Both still going like nothing happened.Vibration can be interesting to get used to on high speed. Whine of saw cutting through wood can be unpleasant. Wear hearing protection. Even if it's a quick cut on hi speed.Different blades cut different materials. Screw tips poking through too far? Cut them right off. Again, wear hearing protection. This thing whines loudly when cutting things. That's about the only complaint but what are you going to do when the blades vibrate that fast to cut through materials? It's going to be loud.Once my dad got used to it, he took mine. So I had to get a replacement for myself. Will it replace a circular saw for long cuts? Are you kidding? You want to free hand long cuts with this? Enjoy, I guess.Overall, this is extremely handy and quick for cutting tasks. If you don't know how to use it, look up videos online. You can make quick work of so many tasks.Just remember your hearing protection.
