Ive tried a few different brands of biltong and made my own. I have to say that this wasn't my favorite. Believe me, i wanted to like it. The taste was sour and most of the bag was pulverized shreds. :( I did find that letting a bit airdry in a bowl made it a little more palatable, but honestly it'sjust sitting in my fridge still, where normally I'd have eaten the whole bag in a day or so. I will say that there was a decent amount for the price. The texture and cut were good on the whole pieces. Also, some of the bites left a weird coating and nasty taste on my tongue, like baking soda or something, but definitely an off taste.I had my own beef jerky store for several years, so I'm a connoisseur, but no snob.-----update 8/13/2019-------I contacted customer service via the email on the bag and got a response. They sent me a new bag and here is the email I sent them back. Very happy now.....The biltong showed up last Thursday! I'm sorry i kept forgetting to email you.It is delicious. It's night and day difference between the bag I got through Amazon originally.This bag was pristine and the taste is spot on. Every piece is a perfect slice, no shreds or fluff. Dark, rich brown color, not hay colored like the old bag. I really think that the other bag got very hot or something and out the taste off.Thank you so much. Now I know that if I am in the mood for biltong, Ayoba-yo is a good choice.Thanks for the customer service as well.....

Very good but inconsistency in dryness is annoying

I bought this after seeing this type of food on the Food Channel. I got it in good time. It was tender. However it was very bland. In it's home country it is a beloved staple snack, so their tastes must differ from mine. I'm not that unhappy; not every food adventure ends up being a success. And you might end up liking better than me. It wasn't unpleasant, but I won't be buying it again.

I bought 4 packets of your biltong. I'm a South African, I know biltong, the spicy packet of biltong that I received is old, tastes moldy. Not satisfied. Will refrain from buying again. Update: Great customer service! They provided a pack of traditional flavor after seeing my review (originally 3 stars, now 5). The traditional flavor is MUCH better and passed the taste-test from everyone in my house. I imagined traditional flavor would be like spicy - just milder. I was wrong, it's a very different flavor, more familiar to American jerky, but still very unique and delicious. Combined with the unique texture (biltong is new to me), it's hard not to eat this by the handful. Getting the right flavor completely changed my opinion. Try traditional first!Original Review: I appreciate the nutrition, great for snacking. The cut/texture is good - seems like thicker cuts of dried meat sliced wafer thin. I tried Spicy Biltong, which wasn't great. I normally share a little bit of jerky with my young son and even my wife has some occasionally. We all agreed that the flavor wasn't great. Maybe other flavors are better. Better flavor would have made all the difference, but at this price, I probably won't risk it.
