Finishing touch for tube amp project
The media could not be loaded. I installed this kit on a tube amp I salvaged from an old (1961) console. The VU type movement gives the amp that finishing touch. Kit was easy to assemble IF you are familiar with electronics and own a good solder iron. If you are unfamiliar with tubes BE CAREFUL as voltages as high as 250V are present. There aren't any instructions included but the board is well marked. The tubes were matched as far as brightness goes. There are two adjustments after the board is installed. One adjustment sets the how far "open" the display is with no audio present. I adjusted the bar to start closing then moved the adjustment back a little. The other adjustment is how far "closed" the bar is with audio applied.

Easy to assemble, great for mounting in other projects.
Easy to assemble if you have eyes, a brain, and a multimeter. It was fun to see the tubes come alive once everything was plugged in. Tubes were not 100% matched but for $17, I could care less, plus, such tubes are inexpensive, abundant and can easily be replaced. The kit could benefit from some more heat shrink tubing and a better translation of the instructions, but was easy to assemble and worked correctly.IMPORTANT POINTS:- Pins 6 and 8 of the tubes output 280V but remain unconnected. To avoid shocks and short circuits, remove these pins from both of the ceramic tube holders by flattening the little retaining tab with some pliers and pushing them out.- The kit does not come with a power supply, and the recommended supply board does not output the necessary 6.3V to drive the heating filaments. I ended up buying "Acxico High Voltage DC Converter Nixie&Magic Eye Tube HV Power Supply Module 250V/6.3V" for the power supply instead. Worked fine and comes with a barrel jack compatible with any generic 12V wall wart.

Do not recomment, it's useless without instructions to assemble it.
Absolutly no documentation or instructions. The product is useless except for the two tubes which can be used if you know how to power and control them. I do not recommend this.

These are super cool - Shock warning
If these had better instructions, it could be a decent beginner project.Warning - pin 6 and 8 on the tube socket are hot at 240v(or whatever you are feeding into the tube). These are unused and exposed. Not touching 240v would be advisable. If I was a beginner, I would skip this project until developing more knowledge and skills. These are super cool. I have been having a lot of fun playing with the tubes

Not a bad kit. First one was missing parts and the second was the same
If you know electronics this kit is very cool. I've been a tube amp tech forever. There are a few things power supply wise you will need to get it up and running. Here is why I gave it 3 stars. The first kit came and it had no 1n60p germanium diodes in it. No prob. Returned ane exchanged it. The second kit only came with 2 and the pcb needs 4 due to the way the traces are setup with the diodes in series. Not a big deal for me. I have some og 1n60 diodes here. You can also use a silicon bat46 or 41. The kit other then that gives you a lot for your money. 2 tubes and the ceramic sockets are worth the price alone. All the other components to build it are just common electronic parts so not a big deal. I like the kit but the qc needs to step up.

Nice Kit
This kit was fun to build and not too difficult even without instructions. It's also a really good value for what's included. Most kits like this don't include the tubes. One thing I didn't like about the kit is that you have to hook up the heater wires yourself off board. I'd like it if the board had a screw terminal for the filament voltage too. Also, the Russian 6e3п tube is a drop in replacement for the 6e2 and they are, in my experience, much better, brighter, and more consistent.

Good kit, BUT...
The kit is is a nicely designed circuit, and works well. The board is good quality. Mine was missing 2 1N60P diodes, but I had some in stock to replace them. BAT41 diodes are a direct replacement. The 2 vacuum tubes that came with my kit were poorly matched, and not of very good quality. The display on 1 tube is very dim, and the other is out of focus and isn't centered in the Phosphor on the glass very well. I am thinking that these might be reject tubes from the manufacturer, tossed in the kit just to get you going. Don't get me wrong, they DO work, they just aren't the prettiest Magic Eye tubes I've ever seen. I DID order another set of just bare tubes from a seller here on Amazon for $10, and plugged them into the kit, and they are VERY nice. Very bright and matched well. Other than the tubes included, and the 2 missing diodes, the kit is very nice. Be aware that there are NO included directions or schematic included in the package, although the board is very clearly marked where each component goes. You WILL have to identify the individual components by their markings and color bands in order to identify them. There is a color diagram in the ad for how to wire the tube sockets, and the socket pins are labeled with numbers that correspond to the numbers on the board connectors also. REMEMBER to wire the tube heaters in series if you plan to use 12 volts to power them. I used a 3s lipo battery and a 12volt to 250volt boost converter to power mine, and it works well for many hours before needing a recharge. 4 stars because of the missing diodes, and not so pretty tubes. Other than that, I'm happy with it.
