Great Product for Price

The QNAP TS-464-8G-US is a remarkable addition to my home network setup. As an upgrade from my reliable QNAP TS 453A, which has been running smoothly for nearly a decade, this new model has exceeded my expectations.Installation and Setup: The installation process was straightforward, thanks to the clear instructions and web support provided. The user-friendly interface will make setting up the NAS a breeze, even for someone with moderate technical knowledge.Performance and Features: This NAS stands out with its high-performance Intel Celeron Quad-core Processor, ensuring smooth and efficient operations. The M.2 PCIe slots are a fantastic addition, allowing for seamless expansion and enhanced performance. I opted for Seagate drives this time, hoping they prove to be as durable as the Toshiba drives I used previously. So far, they have performed exceptionally well.Network Connectivity: The dual 2.5GbE network connectivity is a game-changer, providing faster data transfer speeds and improved network performance. This feature has significantly enhanced my workflow and data management efficiency.Reliability: As someone who prioritizes data security and reliability, the TS-464 has not disappointed. It has seamlessly taken over as my primary NAS, while my trusted TS 453A now serves as a backup. This setup gives me peace of mind, knowing my data is well-protected.Conclusion: In summary, the QNAP TS-464-8G-US is an excellent investment for anyone seeking a high-performance, reliable, and feature-rich NAS. Its robust performance, user-friendly setup, and advanced features make it a standout choice. I highly recommend this NAS for both personal and professional use.

Same high quality as my 251+ - easy setup and replacement of 10+ year old system.

Replacement for my old 2-bay 251+ model that was 10 years old. Was easy to move old drives then swap them for newer, larger drives without any data issues (yes, i did backup just in case). I got a new 5g with LACP switch to connect it and that works great but my hdd's are now feeling a bit slow, probably a ssd cache drive would help.Faster, more space, great product.

Very Customizable. Works with 64GB RAM

I just received this NAS, and I'm very impressed. I've always been put off of buying a dedicated NAS because they've seemed like locked down machines. I'm sure that's true of Synology, but I couldn't have been more wrong about QNAP. I'm very much a fan that I can install any OS I want, and that I'm not tied into using the QNAP QTS OS if I don't want to. I fully intend to install something else, and from some testing that seems perfectly possible. I was able to install Proxmox Virtual Environment. QTS seems extremely feature rich from my brief time exploring it, but it just doesn't integrate into my existing infrastructure. One important thing I want to mention: the QNAP TS-464 supports 64GB of RAM. The official Intel Ark page for the N5095, as well as QNAP's specification page, list 16GB as the maximum RAM capacity, but that's not the case. I purchased a Crucial 32GBx2 kit (CT2K32G4SFD832A) and it worked out of the box. Absolutely no issues whatsoever. I was expecting to there to at least be some software RAM restriction in QTS or something, but nope! It is detected properly and works as you would expect. I did a single pass with Memtest86 and it passed, no errors and the RAM was fully addressable.I only have a few complaints:1. Although the PCIe x4 physical slot is unrestricted and can support longer cards, it would appear you cannot install cards that are more than PCIe x8. The metal chassis has a hole where the PCIe slot comes out but the hole only seems to extends back for a PCIe x8 card to fit. I believe x16 cards would hit the metal chassis and not fully seat into the PCIe slot.2. The PCIe bay has no fan. This is unfortunate because I would imagine most people would be inclined to install networking cards, or external SAS cards. Typically, cards like those specify a minimum airflow requirement. Frankly, I would have been fine with a compromise to total card length supported in exchange for a small blower fan to ensure that any PCIe cards get at least some airflow. As it is, I would only feel comfortable installing cards that are very low power, or that have a built-in fan.3. The documentation does not specify the amount of power supplied by the PCIe slot. It likely only supplies 25W, but this being written out somewhere in the official documentation would be preferable.

This is a terrific NAS

Why did you pick this product vs others?:This system is fantastic out of the box. Very easy setup to do the basics and works as expected. NAS is probably a misnomer because it seems capable of a heck of a lot more.

Quality Hardware & Software -- Migrating Toward a Subscription Service Model

I purchased this NAS so that I could migrate away from third-party cloud storage services. I have been using Google Drive to store large system images and synchronize a terabyte of data across two workstations and two laptops. While it has worked well, I wanted physical control of the data. After populating the hardware with NAS quality drives and SSDs, I could see that the company is now pushing its paid monthly services over managing storage on your own. The software (web server, VPN, etc.) does make your NAS accessible remotely via the internet, but it does not make it easy to set up your own backup and sync system. The NAS does have a file sync app but it is crude and error prone when compared with programs such as SyncBack Pro. If faced now with the choice between a cloud service like Google Drive and QNAP's sync service, I would go back to Google.I will eventually get a stable backup and sync system set up using this QNAP NAS but my advice would be to make sure this NAS meets your needs before purchasing. It is a quality piece of hardware with good, frequently updated software and it get's high marks for local backup and syncing, picture storage, media server function, etc.
